Shubuta Main Street

I am glad I do not live in town anymore and way out in the country...the hustle and bustle of it all would get to me. All jokes aside, I grew up in Shubuta, my Grandfather was Mayor and my Grandmother was Town Clerk for many years. Years that I do not recall, but the stories are vivid. He was also a State Marshall, he knew how to make us mind our manners with just a look and at the same time have a loving hand. He taught us the love of God and Country and of course music. I was blessed to have two wonderful grandparents that raised me. Things have changed, the town is all but dead, even though a small town, the government is corrupt, no one seems to know why grants never went to repair the old depot or restore the first town hall. I could go on, but it is not worth it to bitch and moan.
It still has a charm about it, the old Antebellum Homes that were once in their majestic-ness of time are now ran down and in need a great repair. Some have burned and now just empty lots. The ones that have been restored are a sight to see. Such as the Hand House, that is of Greek Revival and Queen Anne style.
So if you ever, happen down this way, turn off the main highway and see this small town that still has charm and character. Get a sip from that famous red water and maybe you will feel a tad bit better. Stop by the hardware and rock a while, talk, and have a cup of coffee with the ole guys.
But beware, slow down, our local policeman has to earn his living, seems only out of state people get pulled over and women. I like my little plot of land right where I am. may have been raised in a simple life and still live some what a simple life, I feel I am the blessed one.

Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water is to the body.
